The taping of the 5th Annual BET Honors took place last night at Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. and after much commotion over the Kelly Rowland, Mariah Carey tribute, it’s been confirm that Kelly covered “Fantasy” with the help of rapper Raekwon. Kelly expressed, “I love and respect her so much. I have to look at her forehead when I’m singing and not her eyes ’cause I know I’m gonna break out in tears.” While Kelly provided the fun for the tribute, it was heavy weight vocalist Patti Labelle that provided the ‘testimony’ belting out Carey’s classic hit “Hero.
” Speeches about the multi-platinum singer included her husband Nick Canon with son Moroccan (his sister Monroe was backstage), L.A. Reid, First Lady Michelle Obama, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah and Willow Smith. Jill Scott and Common were also on hand to salute some of the additional honorees which included Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou and Spike Lee for the special which on February 13th during Black History Month.
